Improving Plastic Surgery Results With Reiki, Massage, and Other Alternative Health Practices

Posted June 01, 2022 in Massage Therapy, Recovery

3 Minute Read:

The number of plastic surgery and cosmetic treatments performed is constantly increasing. In 2020 alone, over two million surgical procedures and over 13 million minimally invasive procedures were performed

The main reason is that cosmetic surgery allows people to achieve the body and/or facial aesthetic they’ve always desired. No longer do men and women have to settle with their appearance. Instead, they can look and feel the way they want, and this only increases confidence and self-esteem.

However, one of the biggest worries that men and women have when they go into their plastic surgery procedure is the recovery process.

Though extremely rare, every plastic surgery procedure does carry the possibility of complications, especially during the recovery phase. While there is no single experience for patients, as everyone heals at their own pace, there are some ways to help improve the healing experience and minimize the chance of complications.

Some of these forms of healing are discussed below to give you a better idea of what is available to you.

Reiki

Reiki is an energy healing technique that helps to improve the mind, body, and spirit. Unlike traditional massage, which works by putting pressure on the muscles and tissue in the body, Reiki uses a series of hand positions without any added pressure to help influence your body and the way you feel.

While Reiki has not been proven to completely heal a person on its own, it has been shown time and time again to help alleviate pain, anxiety, and even depression, and it can help your body recover more quickly and fully after your plastic surgery procedure.

Massage

At Careaga Plastic Surgery, we are proud to offer several different massage therapies to help you after your surgical procedure.

Two of the most effective massages are the Hot Stone Massage and the Body Sculpt and Cellulite Massage.

Hot Stone Massage

Hot Stone Massage is exactly what it sounds like. Heated stones are placed strategically on your body to help relax tight muscles while also alleviating anxiety and stress. The warmth of the stones works to increase blood circulation in your body, and better circulation equals faster healing after your cosmetic surgical procedure and better sleep and relaxation.

Body Sculpt and Cellulite Massage

Body Sculpt and Cellulite Massage is a deep-tissue massage that manipulates the tissue in your body to reduce fat pockets and cellulite. The result (especially when performed in conjunction with other plastic surgery procedures) can be dynamic and transformative. You can gain a more contoured body aesthetic as well as smoother and healthier skin, all with the help of massage therapy.

Reflexology

Reflexology is one of the most effective therapies available. It takes the same concepts of massage but applies those concepts to your hands and feet. This form of acupressure helps to release tension in your body while improving blood circulation to help you heal from your cosmetic procedure quicker.

In addition to pain relief and improved blood circulation, reflexology also helps to stimulate your nerves to bring your body back into balance with itself.

When to Incorporate These Practices?

Reiki, massage therapy, and reflexology can be performed by themselves as standalone treatments or after healing from your plastic surgery procedure. It is recommended to always consult with your physician before starting these treatments.
