Dr. Karl William Schwarz, affectionately known as Dr. William, is a Duke-trained, board-certified plastic surgeon of great renown. A specialist in breast and body procedures, Dr. William creates beautiful curves and tailored results by uniquely incorporating the convexities and concavities of the Ogee Line.
Dr. William believes superb recovery is essential to successful cosmetic surgery. To this end, he developed a recovery protocol to aid the recuperation process. He founded Ogee Recovery, a company that creates products designed by Dr. William for plastic surgery applications.

Early Life and Education
Born on November 4, 1966, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Dr. William is the son of Carl, founder of the international mechanical engineering firm MCW Consultants, and Elizabeth Schwarz, a registered dietician. The family relocated to Vancouver, British Columbia, where Dr. William grew up with his three siblings. He pursued early education at Cedardale Elementary School and later attended the all-boys institution, St. George’s School, in Vancouver. During his school years, he displayed athletic prowess in hockey, rugby, track & field, and lacrosse and was appointed Vice Head Boy in his senior year.
Dr. William enrolled at the University of British Columbia with an initial intent to study mechanical engineering. However, following his father’s cancer diagnosis and the subsequent passing of both his parents, he shifted his academic focus to medicine. He hoped to become an oncology and cancer researcher, influenced by his father’s cancer multiple myeloma. However, a transformative experience in his third year at the Schulich School of Medicine in London, Ontario, redirected his aspirations towards plastic surgery.
In 1994, Dr. William married Shauna, whom he met during his undergraduate years. Following his medical degree, he moved to Detroit to unite with his wife and underwent general surgical training at Wayne State University. During this period, he engaged in wound healing research and acquired a master’s degree in genetics. Subsequently, to finishing his seven-year residency in general surgery, he completed a three-year plastic surgery residency at Duke University in North Carolina.
Dr. William is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and licensed to practice in Florida.
Areas of Expertise
Dr. William specializes in cosmetic surgery of the breast and body, with a noteworthy sculptural approach to liposuction and Brazilian Butt Lifts. While experienced in both cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, his decision to focus his expertise on these sub-specialties allows him to engineer stellar results.
Dr. William is also passionate about patient education, having amassed a following of over half a million people across multiple platforms. His YouTube channel has over 500 videos and podcasts that aim to inform viewers, answer questions, dispel misconceptions about surgical procedures, and allow prospective patients to acquaint themselves with Dr. William and his methods.
The Ogee Philosophy
An ogee is an S-shaped line found in nature and architecture that is pleasing to the eye. Dr. William seeks to sculpt out this shape, which he calls the Ogee Line, in each patient when he performs BBLs or Ogee Lipo®.
In 2020, Dr. William launched his brand, Ogee Recovery, to complement his sculptural approach to surgical body procedures. His team develops products like postoperative compression garments and scar gel to improve recovery and give patients the best results possible.
