7 Ways to Fight Facial Aging

Posted May 30, 2023 in Aging Neck, Facelift, Facial Lasers, Facials, Injectable Fillers, Non-surgical Facial Rejuvenation, Plastic Surgery

Wisdom may come with age, but so do wrinkles, fine lines, and laxity on the face. Not only can these age-related concerns make you look older than you actually are, but they can cause you to feel insecure with how you look.

The good news is that there are surgical and non-surgical options to help reduce and even reverse the signs of aging on the face.

Non-surgical Options

Non-surgical treatments can be effective for combating early signs of age and rejuvenating your facial appearance.

1. Injectable Treatments

Injectables can be transformative, and adults of all ages can undergo these treatments. The two most effective injectable options are neuromodulators and facial fillers.

Neuromodulators/Neurotoxins

Neuromodulators, such as BOTOX® Cosmetic, are composed of neurotoxins (botulinum toxin-A) and temporarily block signals from the nerves to the brain.

This makes it effective for treating dynamic wrinkles in the upper face (skin lines caused by the continuous contraction of muscles, which happens when you smile, frown, or squint).

These injections are made directly into the muscle and work to keep it from contracting and causing unwanted lines on your skin.

Dermal Fillers

While neuromodulators can treat dynamic wrinkles on the upper face, facial fillers are effective for treating wrinkles, lines, skin laxity, and volume loss across the face (especially around the nose, mouth, and in the cheeks).

Our PA, Reana Myers, is proud to offer several different facial fillers for our patients. JUVÉDERM® and Restylane® are hyaluronic acid dermal fillers that work by attracting and retaining moisture. These options help to literally fill in skin lines and create a more healthy fullness to your skin.

We also offer SCULPTRA® Aesthetic, which is made from polylactic acid. Instead of retaining moisture in the skin, SCULPTRA® Aesthetic actively stimulates collagen and elastin production.

2. Laser Treatments

Laser treatments utilize various forms of laser energy to heat the deep layers of skin. This process stimulates collagen and elastin production to revitalize the facial skin and give you the youthful texture and tone you have been looking for.

Careaga Plastic Surgery offers several laser treatments to choose from, with each helping correct specific age- and lifestyle-related concerns on the face.

From fractional laser treatments to CO2 lasers to the innovative PiXel8 (which combines the stunning effects of microneedling and laser energy), there is a laser treatment that can help smooth and tighten your facial skin.

3. EMFACE®

EMFACE® is a groundbreaking treatment that reduces wrinkles while actively tightening your skin. This treatment uses HIFES™ (High-Intensity Facial Electrical Stimulation) technology, which combines radiofrequency and electromagnetic stimulation, to tighten the skin and strengthen the underlying muscles.

With this treatment, the dermis is heated, which increases collagen and elastin. At the same time, the facial muscles are contracted to strengthen them and help give you the defined and smooth facial appearance you’ve been looking for.

4. PRP

PRP (platelet rich plasma) is naturally found in the blood and can be used to stimulate collagen and elastin in the skin when injected.

PRP has numerous cosmetic benefits, including strengthening and regrowing hair and helping smooth wrinkles and fine lines.

With this treatment, blood is drawn from your body and spun through a centrifuge. The separated PRP is injected into various areas of your face to help give you the healthy and youthful appearance you desire.

Surgical Options

While non-surgical treatments can transform your facial appearance and help get rid of those unwanted signs of age, the reality is that even they have their limits.

Plastic surgery can give you comprehensive, long-lasting results that you can be proud of for years to come. Here are three of the most effective and trusted facial procedures available:

5. Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is a cosmetic procedure that helps correct droopy eyelids and puffiness and bags under the eyes.

With this procedure, either the upper eyelid, lower eyelid, or both can be treated.

With upper blepharoplasty, excess skin, muscle, and fat are removed and repositioned. Not only can this procedure help correct cosmetic issues in the upper eyelid, but it also has functional benefits for patients whose vision is obstructed by the sagging eyebrow skin.

With lower blepharoplasty, fat underneath the eye is removed or repositioned to relieve the skin of any puffiness that may be present.

6. Brow Lift Surgery

A brow lift (also known as a forehead lift) addresses age-related concerns in the eyebrows and forehead, including forehead lines, wrinkles, and heavy or furrowed brows.

Dr. Careaga and Dr. Durand perform brow lift surgery, which uses minimal incisions to remove unwanted fat, and skin from the area to give you a smoother, more youthful facial aesthetic.

7. Facelift Surgery

Facelift and neck lift surgeries address age-related concerns on the lower two-thirds of the face (from the cheeks to the neck).

A facelift is an excellent option for women and men who have mild to severe skin laxity on their lower and midface (including a double chin and/or jowls). With this procedure, the underlying facial tissue is tightened, excess skin is removed from the face, and the remaining skin is pulled tight to give you a more youthful and sculpted appearance to your face.

How Do I Know Which Is Right for Me?

Because there are several options available to you, deciding which treatment or procedure is best for you can be challenging and even confusing. However, a consultation with Dr. Careaga, Dr. Durand, or one of our skilled aestheticians can help you choose the right procedure or treatment.
