While the majority of plastic surgery procedures are performed on women, there is a rising number of men embracing their options for cosmetic procedures. In this blog, we discuss some of the male celebrities who have opened up about getting plastic surgery and what procedures they chose to undergo.

Men, it turns out, care a lot about how they look. While the majority of plastic surgery procedures are still performed on women, a rising number of men are embracing their options for cosmetic procedures. In fact, according to the ASPS Procedural Statistics Release for 2022, there has been a 207% increase in total cosmetic procedures performed on men since 2019. Minimally invasive treatments have seen a jump of 253%, as they offer a fast, easy way to smooth lines and shape the face with little to no downtime.

Even male celebrities admit that the pressure of looking a certain way can make them feel self-conscious, so they seek plastic surgery to improve their confidence. Joe Jonas and Gordon Ramsay have been open about their use of injectables, doing their part to erase the stigma around men getting cosmetic procedures to feel better about themselves and their appearance.

In this blog, we discuss some of the male celebrities who have opened up about getting plastic surgery and what procedures they chose to undergo.

Gene Simmons: Facelift

Gene Simmons, known as the long-tongued bassist for the iconic band KISS, documented his facelift procedure on his reality show Gene Simmons Family Jewels. He and his partner, Shannon Tweed, underwent his and hers facelifts in 2007. “I had thought about it before,” Simmons tells People. “I was aware I had jowls.” The reality show documented every step of the procedure, from pre-op through recovery, giving viewers a glimpse into not only his facelift but also an eyelid lift and liposuction of his pecs. Does his openness about cosmetic surgery mean he recommends it for everyone? “Everyone’s journey should be a personal choice,” Simmons says, “to thine own self be true.”

Howard Stern: Rhinoplasty

Radio “shock jock” Howard Stern is the perfect example of how expertly-performed plastic surgery can change your life—without drastically changing your appearance. Despite starting out in radio, Stern has an extremely recognizable face, and as his popularity grew, he found himself in the spotlight more and more. He underwent rhinoplasty to smooth out a hump on his nose, and the change was so subtle that only his sister noticed a difference. At their core, this is what cosmetic procedures should do: enhance your appearance and address things that make you self-conscious in a way that leaves you looking like yourself while feeling more confident.

The Rock: Gynecomastia Surgery

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is known as one of the fittest, most muscular men in the world. However, even he once struggled with achieving the body he wanted, despite hours in the gym and a strict diet. In 2005, he underwent gynecomastia surgery (also called male breast reduction), a procedure designed to remove excess fat and glandular tissue from a man’s chest. Gynecomastia, also called “man boobs” or “moobs,” is a common occurrence in men, affecting nearly 40% of men at some time in their lives. Because he spent so much time shirtless, whether in the wrestling ring or on the big screen, The Rock felt self-conscious about the appearance of his chest. Knowing that you can’t focus on fat loss in a specific part of your body, he elected to undergo gynecomastia surgery.

Deion Sanders: BOTOX® Cosmetic and DYSPORT®

The current coach of the University of Colorado football team, “Coach Prime,” has been a larger-than-life presence in his career as a professional baseball player and an NFL star for 14 seasons. Known for his flashy personality and incredible athleticism, Sanders has also spent his share of time in the media and pop culture spotlight. As he approached fifty, he noticed that he’d developed frown lines and crow’s feet, so he decided to try injectables. He loved the results, telling Entertainment Tonight: “There are a lot of things that I have been the forerunner of,” he said. “So, I had never played football and baseball on the same day, so I did that. So, I don’t mind being a leader when it comes to this because it really helps. I feel like I look good, and I feel good.”
