Over time, a woman’s body changes due to several factors. Age, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and weight fluctuations all impact your appearance and can affect your confidence. Suddenly, you notice excess skin on your stomach, pockets of fat that won’t respond to diet and exercise, and breasts that sit lower than they used to. Fortunately, cosmetic surgery can restore your youthful appearance and boost your self-esteem with just one surgery: a Mommy Makeover. In this blog, we’ll discuss how long Mommy Makeover surgery takes, as well as the procedures included in the surgery.

Do I Have to Be a Mother to Get a Mommy Makeover?

Absolutely not! The term “Mommy Makeover” has been coined to describe a set of cosmetic surgery procedures that women typically undergo after having children. These procedures focus on the areas of the body most affected by pregnancy and breastfeeding—the stomach and breasts. A Mommy Makeover typically includes a tummy tuck, breast lift (with or without augmentation), and liposuction. However, being a mother is not a prerequisite for surgery. You just need to be someone who wants to refresh your appearance with two or more cosmetic procedures.

How Long Does Mommy Makeover Surgery Take?

The duration of a Mommy Makeover depends on the number of procedures you are undergoing and their complexity. Below is a list of the procedures most often included in a Mommy Makeover and the approximate time they take to perform.

Tummy Tuck

The tummy tuck portion of a Mommy Makeover takes about two to five hours, depending on whether you need a mini or full tummy tuck. A full tummy tuck takes longer than a mini tummy tuck, as it addresses the upper and lower stomach and includes abdominal muscle repair if needed. A mini tummy tuck only corrects loose skin and flab on the lower abdomen and does not involve muscle repair.

Liposuction

Liposuction takes one to two hours, depending on how much fat is being removed and from what areas of the body. During a Mommy Makeover, liposuction is typically focused on the waist, hips, flanks, and stomach to smooth and slim your curves.

Breast Procedures

When it comes to including breast procedures in a Mommy Makeover, you have several options. You can choose a breast lift, breast lift with implants, breast augmentation with implants, or breast augmentation with fat transfer.

The duration of a breast lift is one to two hours and also depends on the level of correction required. More severe sagging requires more extensive lifting and reshaping of the breast tissue than moderate or mild sagging. A breast lift with implants takes one to three hours.

Breast augmentation with implants takes one to two hours to complete, while breast augmentation with fat transfer takes about three to four hours. Fat transfer breast augmentation takes longer because liposuction is performed to harvest and process the fat for placement in the breasts. It is then strategically and precisely injected into the breasts.

How Many Procedures Can I Include in My Mommy Makeover?

While a Mommy Makeover most often includes three procedures, there’s no rule saying you can’t choose to undergo fewer or add more. Some of the factors that influence how many procedures you can undergo in your Mommy Makeover include:

Types of Procedures

If you want to get breast augmentation and combine it with a Brazilian Butt Lift as part of your Mommy Makeover, you can. However, you will likely have to have your surgery in stages, as recovery from breast augmentation requires you to keep pressure off your chest, while a Brazilian Butt Lift requires that you keep pressure off your buttocks during recovery.

Duration of the Procedures

As you can see from the list above, each portion of a Mommy Makeover takes a couple of hours. While you can combine additional procedures for comprehensive body rejuvenation, most surgeons will not allow your surgery to last more than six to seven hours. The reason for this is purely to ensure your safety. A Mommy Makeover is performed using general anesthesia, and while it is safe, the longer you are under anesthesia, the more likely you may be to experience side effects or complications during recovery.
