Breast Lift (Mastopexy)
What is a Mastopexy (Breast Lift)?
Dr. Daniel E. Careaga offers mastopexy, commonly known as a breast lift at his state-of-the-art Careaga Plastic Surgery Center. Dr. Careaga’s full service cosmetic services practice is conveniently located in the heart of Miami, Florida, minutes away from the Miami International Airport.
As we age our skin begins to lose some of its elasticity. As most women know, this is particularly true for their breast tissue. Unfortunately, women find that their breasts begin to lose their firmness and shape or in other words, the breast begins to sag. Also, many women are unhappy about the appearance of their breast after pregnancy, nursing and/or weight loss as the breasts may have lost volume in addition to sagging.
A mastopexy or breast lift can help a woman to feel more confident in her appearance and self-esteem. Dr. Daniel E. Careaga often combines a breast augmentation with a breast lift to achieve his patient’s breast and body shaping goals. At Careaga Plastic Surgery Center, Dr. Daniel E. Careaga has performed hundreds of breast lifts to help women look and feel better.
Who is a Candidate for a Mastopexy (Breast Lift)?
Mastopexy, also known as breast lift surgery, restores the breasts to a more youthful state. By lifting and tightening the breast tissue most women feel a breast lift helps to restore contour to their body.
Many women have breast lift surgery because their breasts are sagging due to:

Careaga can help you decide how to achieve a more proportioned shape and contour for your body type.
What Results Can I Expect from a Mastopexy (Breast Lift)?
Dr. Daniel E. Careaga will carefully evaluate your breasts to determine if a breast lift is appropriate to accomplish your breast augmentation and breast shaping aesthetic goal. Dr. Careaga will discuss the eventual breast shape and size and give you an idea of what you can realistically expect after your breast lift.
Consultation Process with Dr. Daniel Careaga
Patient education is an important part of the consultation process before your breast lift. At Careaga Plastic Surgery Center, you will be required to complete a pre-op appointment prior to surgery. At this appointment you will discuss any additional questions, go over paperwork and complete your lab work. Dr. Daniel E. Careaga and his nursing team will give you specific pre- and post-op instructions for your breast lift procedure(s). Be sure to follow these instructions carefully to ensure optimal results. It is also important to avoid any type of blood thinners for a minimum of 2 weeks before surgery (i.e. aspirin, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba) and avoid smoking for a minimum of 1 month before surgery.
During your consultation, Dr. Careaga will review with you the surgical procedure and any associated risks.
Dr. Daniel E. Careaga’s Mastopexy (Breast Lift) Surgical Technique and Protocol
Breast lift surgery is done as an outpatient surgical procedure under general anesthesia and takes from one to three hours. During your breast lift procedure, Dr. Careaga will remove excess skin from the lower portion of your breast to contour and lift the breast. Typically, Dr. Careaga will make small incisions. One incision is made around the areola, the second incision is made vertically from the areola on the underside of the breasts, and the third is a horizontal incision around the curve of the breasts. However, if the amount of lifting that is needed is limited, fewer incisions may be made.
Dr. Careaga uses one of most frequently used breast lift surgical technique, referred to as the Inverted-T Lift, Anchor Lift, Keyhole Lift (Anchor Mastopexy, Inverted-T Mastopexy, and Keyhole Mastopexy). The anchor lift is considered the “gold” standard for breast lifts.
This precise surgical technique allows Dr. Careaga to expertly remove the excess breast tissue and reposition the breasts so they are positioned higher on the chest. It should be noted that scarring is minimal using this technique.
The nipples and areola are often repositioned higher, on the front of the breasts. Nipples are not usually removed, but stay attached to the breast tissue to maintain sensation.
Recovery and Aftercare
Patients return home after breast lift surgery with instructions to wear a bra and very small bandages on the incisions. Dr. Careaga recommends wearing the bra for support for two to three weeks. Avoidance of strenuous activities is recommended.
