Breast implants come in a wide range of sizes to accommodate every woman’s body shape and breast augmentation goals. The ability to customize your procedure ensures the most natural results, but it also makes the decision-making process more challenging. How can you know which size is right for you? We’ll discuss your breast implant sizing options and provide a comprehensive size guide to help you find the fit that looks and feels best for your body.

Breast Implant Size Options

When women contemplate breast enhancement surgery, bigger isn’t always better. Implants range from very small to very large, with most women selecting sizes somewhere in the middle. Women concerned about breast asymmetry may choose two different sizes of implants to balance their body profile while adding the desired fullness.

Finding the right fit to match your body proportions, lifestyle, and aesthetic goals helps ensure a successful procedure. At Careaga Plastic Surgery in Coral Gables, FL, Dr. Careaga guides patients through the selection process to ensure they are delighted with their results. We also use our Sientra Mirror simulator to help patients “see” their results before surgery, so they approach their procedure with confidence in their decision.

Implant Size vs. Bra Cup Size

Breast implants are measured in cubic centimeters (cc), a unit of volume rather than cup size. Measuring by volume can make it difficult for patients to understand how their bra size might change with implant size. As a general rule, every 200 cc to 250 cc of implant volume increases your breasts by one cup size. This chart shows the approximate volume needed to achieve specific cup sizes:

  • A to B cup: 250–300 cc
  • A to D cup: 370–430 cc
  • B to C cup: 250–300 cc
  • B to DD cup: 400–450 cc
  • C to D cup: 300–350 cc
  • C to E cup: 450–550 cc

Implant volume ranges from around 150 cc to 800 cc. However, surgeons rarely recommend either extreme, as neither tends to produce the desired results for most patients. Cup sizes can also vary between bra brands, so the relationship between volume and cup size is not exact. Your surgeon can help you determine the best size for you based on your body structure and aesthetic goals. Perusing our before-and-after gallery can help you choose the look you want to achieve.

Types of Breast Implant Variations

Implants also vary in diameter and profile. The diameter of the implant base can range from 7.4 cm to 17.2 cm. Wider diameters tend to work better for women with broader chests or who prefer a more natural breast slope. Smaller diameters are better for smaller frames and for women who want greater projection.

Implant projection measures how far the implant extends forward on the chest. A moderate profile offers the most natural result and works well for women with wider chests. A high profile is usually preferred for women with a narrower chest or those who desire more volume and enhanced cleavage.
