Will Emsculpt® Give Me the Same Results as Liposuction?

One of the most frustrating things is when you eat well, work out consistently, and still have stubborn fat that won’t go away.

4 Minute Read:

While there are many treatments and body contouring procedures available nowadays that can help you reduce stubborn fat, how do you know which one is right for you?

Well, there are two approaches to cosmetic fat removal: surgical and non-surgical.

Liposuction is one of the most popular surgical procedures performed each year. In fact, liposuction surgery ranked as the most popular plastic surgery procedure in 2024. But liposuction is an invasive surgery, which involves a lengthier downtime, and some people who have stubborn fat in their bodies would prefer not to undergo a surgical procedure and recovery.

For these people, several non-surgical fat removal treatments are available. With over 447,581 non-invasive fat reduction procedures performed in 2024, it is clear that these procedures can be trusted to give you the results you’re looking for.

And one of the most effective non-surgical procedures available is Emsculpt®.

What Is Emsculpt®?

Emsculpt® is a body contouring device that uses energy to remove unwanted fat and build muscle mass. In fact, EMSCULPT NEO® treatments are the only FDA-approved non-invasive treatments to tone muscle while burning fat.

Emsculpt® uses electromagnetic energy to make the muscles contract at a high rate. This allows excess fat to be burned and muscles to naturally tone.

Much like other non-invasive procedures, Emsculpt® allows patients to avoid incisions and recovery time. But where other procedures may simply remove the stubborn fat in your body, Emsculpt® can give you that added muscle definition that you’ve been looking for, and all without lifting a weight or doing a single crunch.

It generally takes about 30 minutes to complete an Emsculpt® treatment with virtually no downtime, and these treatments are performed weekly for four weeks. Something to keep in mind is that the muscle-gain results obtained from Emsculpt® sessions are not permanent and must be maintained with natural workouts or maintenance treatments.

Emsculpt® can tone muscle and remove fat in the following treatment areas of your body:

  • Buttocks
  • Biceps
  • Triceps
  • Thighs
  • Calves

Non-Surgical Procedures for Fat Removal vs. Liposuction

While there are many positive qualities about non-surgical fat removal options, like Emsculpt®, which doesn’t require invasive surgery, it is important to understand that you will not get the same results with these non-surgical options as you will with liposuction.

Liposuction removes excess fat to reveal your natural body shape. Because of this, it can target and treat a larger area with more comprehensive results than many non-surgical treatments.

None of these are weight-loss procedures. Though you will lose some weight from removing fat cells, it will not be a significant number. Instead, these treatments are designed to sculpt and define your silhouette.

After your procedure, it is important that you maintain a healthy lifestyle, a balanced diet, and a stable weight, to prolong your results.

In the end, whether you choose non-surgical fat removal or liposuction, you will achieve long-lasting results and feel more confident in how you look and feel. The right choice just depends on what you’re looking for.

Emsculpt® vs. Liposuction FAQs

Is Emsculpt® better than liposuction?

Both liposuction and Emsculpt® address different things and may be better suited for different patients. Emsculpt® is ideal for most patients who want non-surgical muscle toning with minimal downtime. Liposuction may be more appropriate for those who want more significant fat reduction in a targeted area.

Can Emsculpt® replace liposuction?

Emsculpt® can help improve definition and tone, but it does not surgically remove fat as liposuction does. Liposuction is more direct for reducing stubborn fat deposits because fat cells are physically removed from the treated area.

Which treatment removes more fat?

Liposuction typically removes more superficial fat, while Emsculpt® is better understood as a body sculpting treatment. However, while these treatments reduce fat and tone muscles respectively, neither should be considered a weight loss procedure. Careaga Plastic Surgery offers a comprehensive weight loss program for those seeking more weight-focused regimens.

Can Emsculpt® tighten loose skin?

Emsculpt® may improve tone, but it does not provide skin-tightening benefits. Patients with significant skin laxity may need a different treatment plan, such as a tummy tuck for weakened abdominal muscles.

Can I combine liposuction and Emsculpt®?

Many patients may benefit from a combination procedure. However, Dr. Careaga must determine candidacy and safety based on your anatomy, goals, and medical history. These questions will be discussed during your initial consultation.
