Can Rhinoplasty Surgery Help Restore a Broken Nose?

A broken nose can change your nasal structure. A severe break can lead to a bent, crooked nose bridge, changing the symmetry and facial harmony of your face. Because the face is such a focal point of the body, even the smallest changes can be noticeable.

If you have an uneven nose structure after nasal trauma, you may be wondering whether rhinoplasty, or nose job, can restore your nose to its original shape. Depending on your anatomy and the severity of the bend, both surgical and non-surgical rhinoplasty may be an option to fix a broken nose and crooked appearance.

What Types of Rhinoplasty Procedures Help With Nasal Injury?

Before you jump into a rhinoplasty procedure, consider the different types of rhinoplasty. It’s important to know that, depending on the severity of the tissue damage, multiple surgeries may be needed to correct it.

Surgical

Surgical rhinoplasty is an invasive procedure that involves tissue removal, cartilage and nasal bone manipulation, and generally a more intensive recovery period. Surgical rhinoplasty requires general anesthesia and is a longer procedure, so the cost is higher than for a non-surgical rhinoplasty.

Types of surgical rhinoplasty include:

  • Closed rhinoplasty
  • Open rhinoplasty
  • Septoplasty and Turbinate Reduction

This option is recommended for those with many cases of severe nasal asymmetry, as the results will be a more dramatic change and lifelong.

Surgical rhinoplasty is the appropriate treatment for those facing other possible complications, such as difficulty breathing through one or both nostrils due to a deviated septum, intense discomfort, and general facial trauma.

Non-surgical

Non-surgical rhinoplasty, also called liquid rhinoplasty/nose job, is a minimally invasive procedure that uses filler injections to correct minor imperfections and help to lightly straighten the nose bridge. This procedure has minimal downtime, and patients can generally return to work immediately as their nose heals.

Due to the lack of general anesthesia and other fees associated with surgical procedures, liquid rhinoplasty is cheaper than surgical rhinoplasty.

This option is recommended for those with less severe cases of nasal asymmetry. The results are more subtle and temporary, lasting around six to 12 months. Patients who are interested in surgical rhinoplasty but want to test it out first may also have liquid rhinoplasty performed beforehand.
