Nose Enhancement (Rhinoplasty) Miami
What is a Rhinoplasty (Nose Enhancement)?
Dr. Daniel E. Careaga offers rhinoplasty, commonly known as a “nose job,” at his state-of-the-art Careaga Plastic Surgery Center. Dr. Careaga’s full service cosmetic services practice is conveniently located in the heart of Miami, Florida, minutes away from the Miami International Airport.
Since an individual’s nose is central to one’s face, many patients are troubled by the shape and size of their nose. Men and women often seek a skilled plastic surgeon to correct and reshape their nose due to an overdeveloped dorsum, referred to a dorsal “hump,” which results in a hook or bump along the nose. Specialized training and skill is required to expertly remove the hump and refine the misshapen tip so that your nose looks natural.
Dr. Careaga performs rhinoplasty surgery for patients that desire to reshape the contours of their nose so that balance is achieved with their other facial features. His experience and skill with rhinoplasty allows him to achieve provide an aesthetic (cosmetic) result that corrects the outward appearance of the nose while also ensuring that the nose continues to effectively function.
Nasal reshaping will assist in facial rejuvenation and can be combined with other facial enhancements, such as a chin and/or cheek implants.
Who is a Candidate for a Rhinoplasty?
Candidates for nasal reshaping, or a nose job, are individuals who:
- Desire a cosmetic refinement/reshaping of their nose to enhance their appearance
- Were born with a nasal deformity that requires a plastic surgeon to correct
- Suffered a nose injury in an accident or sporting event
- Find that the tip of their nose is drooping due to the structural support weakening with age
Dr. Carega is often asked if rhinoplasty is recommended for children or adolescents. He advises against rhinoplasty for purely aesthetic reasons for children, as the nose continues to grow and develop from birth through 14-16 years.
Be sure to consult with Dr. Careaga for more information on the best time and correction for your nasal enhancement.
What Results Can I Expect from a Rhinoplasty?
Nasal reshaping surgery is often the most challenging operation for plastic surgeons. Achieving a natural looking “nose job” or revision rhinoplasty depends not only on your surgeon’s skill and experience but also on the ability to consider each patient’s unique facial and anatomical features.
Dr. Daniel E. Careaga is also very careful to review your medical history and physical/functional factors such as airway passages of your nose, the shape of your septum, the size and position of your inferior turbinates, and any medical conditions such as sinus disease. These are all important considerations prior to undertaking any cosmetic or corrective nose surgery.

Dr. Daniel E. Careaga’s Rhinoplasty Surgical Technique and Protocol
Rhinoplasty is a term that describes an array of operative techniques that can be used to alter the aesthetic and functional properties of the nose. Typically, surgical access to the nose can be gained via incisions placed inside the nose or a combination of incisions placed inside the nose and outside the nostrils. Dr. Carega advises that these two techniques, open and closed (endonasal) rhinoplasty, share many of the same incisions and many of the same principles. Dr. Careaga will discuss with you which surgical approach (open or closed rhinoplasty) is best for you.
In an open rhinoplasty procedure, an incision is made in the area of the nose called the columella (the small strip of skin between the nostrils). Afterwards, Dr. Careag gently pulls back on the nose to access the upper and lower lateral cartilages. The advantages of an open rhinoplasty are little if any bleeding during the surgery, minimal swelling and a faster and easier recovery.
In a closed rhinoplasty procedure, Dr. Careaga makes several incisions inside the nostrils and none outside thus there is no visible scarring after the surgery. However, Dr. Careaga advises that a closed rhinoplasty procedure is limited to patients that require relatively minor modifications/corrections. A small hump, for example, can be corrected with a closed procedure, but all other characteristics of the nose are not affected. The patient should not require a complicated surgical procedure for improvement of other nose features.
Recovery and Aftercare
Dr. Daniel E. Careaga tells his patients that everyone heals differently after their rhinoplasty. Consequently the degree of swelling and bruising varies from patient to patient. During your surgery, a small splint is placed on your nose so that your nose is kept stable and protected. The splint remains in place for five to seven days. Depending on the individual patient, some nasal packing may be used to help reduce swelling and bleeding. This packing is placed inside your nose during surgery and removed the next morning.
If pain medication is needed, Dr. Careaga can prescribe a mild medication to help you. Do not be alarmed if your nasal passages are stuffed-up or feel clogged after your nose surgery. But you do NOT want to blow your nose for at least one week. Be sure to discuss any questions or concerns you may have with Dr. Careaga and his nursing team.
